Inner Pot Material: Match Acceptance Standards of Target Market

Three mainstream inner pot options: non-stick coated pot, ceramic coated pot, stainless steel pot. Material selection depends on your sales region and target audience.

Non-stick inner pots remain the global default for most markets, offering good cost performance and reduced rice sticking. The main risk lies in coating food-contact compliance. Claims of “PFAS-free” are inconsistent across the market. Regulatory rules in the EU and several US states are tightening continuously. If selling to these regions, secure and archive full written test certificates for the coating. Some buyers suffered full-season sales disruption due to missing coating compliance documents.

[Industry Evidence] EU RAPEX alert system continues to publish notifications on food-contact products with excessive PFAS levels. EU REACH regulation and multiple US state laws regulate PFAS. Testing agencies have recorded many export cases where incomplete PFAS documentation caused marketplace delistings and customs detentions. Verbal “PFAS-free” statements do not satisfy customs or platform requirements. Written test reports from ISO 17025 accredited laboratories are mandatory.

Ceramic coating appeals to consumers avoiding synthetic chemical coatings, yet the coating is brittle. Stainless steel inner pots are durable for commercial and institutional buyers; dishwasher-safe and scratch-resistant. Its downside is tendency to burn and stick rice, even under normal water volume, and higher material cost.

There is no universally “best” material, only the best fit for your brand and target market. Retain material selection records. In case of regulatory audits, a simple statement “we believe it is safe” cannot serve as compliance proof.

Regional Certification Requirements & Their Impact on BOM

The same rice cooker model cannot be shipped directly to all regions. Holding this misconception can easily result in container detention at ports.

  • US market: Electrical components require ETL or UL certification; food-contact parts must comply with relevant FDA material requirements.
  • EU market: CE certification plus RoHS compliance; food-contact components generally also require LFGB certification.
  • Commercial channels may sometimes require NSF certification.

Each certification alters the Bill of Materials (BOM), as key components must be adjusted. Confirm your certification standards before starting product design — this sequence cannot be reversed. We have seen many buyers design products to CE standards first and attempt to add UL certification later. Such changes require a full redesign of the power supply structure, which directly erodes profit margins.

[Industry Evidence] Records from the cross-border electronics certification sector show that CE and UL impose incompatible specifications for key components. Adding UL certification after hardware for the CE version has been finalized often means replacing critical components, revising the PCB layout. This leads to higher BOM costs, retesting, extended lead times, and in some cases, modifications to existing molds.

Our certification page lists our available qualifications and their scope of coverage. Share your target market during discussions, and we can provide the corresponding BOM proposal before mold development.

The Unavoidable Topic: MOQ & Tooling

Last, and something buyers should confirm early: minimum order quantity and mold development. Rice cooker design is mature with manageable tooling cost. Custom appearance (unique shape, custom inner pot) requires new molds. Standard SKUs support much lower MOQ, while fully customized projects require sufficient order volume to amortize mold expenses. Do not trust promises of “customization at any quantity”. Reliable factories will clearly calculate mold cost and MOQ upfront.

Careful specification selection builds rice cooker projects with repeat orders, rather than inventory stuck in warehouses. Get heating system, inner pot and certification right; extra preset function buttons are only add-ons.

Looking for rice cooker specifications and certification checklists tailored for your target market (US / EU / other regions)? Submit an inquiry, and we will provide BOM and MOQ proposals.
